Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi has backed the Taliban rule in Afghanistan saying that they have come with a positive approach this time. Shahid Afridi also pointed out that Taliban forces are supporting cricket and they like the sport a lot. A few weeks ago, Taliban forces took over Afghanistan’s capital city Kabul.

Due to Taliban forces entering the capital city, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani was forced to flee from the country. Taliban forces have taken over the country and are now working to form their government and rule in the Asian nation. Taliban’s strength rose after US President Joe Biden decided to withdraw the US forces from Afghanistan, who were fighting a battle against the Taliban since 2001.

Taliban Have Come With A Very Positive Mind: Shahid Afridi

Pakistani journalist Naila Inayat shared a video on Twitter in which former Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi shared word of support for the Taliban.

“No doubt Taliban have come. But, they have come with a very positive mind. They’re allowing ladies to work. They are allowing them to participate in politics. They are supporting cricket…And I believe the Taliban like cricket a lot,” Shahid Afridi told reporters”. Have a look at the video below.

Notably, former Pakistani cricketer and current Prime Minister Imran Khan had earlier supported Taliban leaders, calling them normal civilians and not military outfits. He had said that Pakistan has millions of Afghan refugees.

“Now, there are camps of 500,000 people; there are camps of 100,000 people. And Taliban are not some military outfits, they are normal civilians. And if there are some civilians in these camps, how is Pakistan supposed to hunt these people down? How can you call them sanctuaries?” Imran Khan argued.

After taking over Afghanistan, the Taliban has reimposed Islamic Sharia law. Notably, these laws consist of repressive laws and retrograde policies on Afghan women. Some Afghanistan cricketers like Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi opposed Taliban rule in their home country and urged world leaders to take a stand to save their country.

Due to the reestablishment of Taliban rule in Afghanistan, many foreign nationals left the country. Moreover, many Afghan citizens are also trying to leave Afghanistan. This has created a chaos at Kabul international airport as well as inside the city.
