Shrewsbury fans slam club's statement following Daniel Udoh's move to Wycombe
Shrewsbury Town have been criticised by some of their own fans following the club’s statement on Daniel Udoh’s exit to Wycombe Wanderers.
The Nigerian forward, 27, departed the Salops after five years in Shropshire to pen a deal with the Chairboys.
In doing so, he has become the club’s eighth new signing of the summer.
However, despite scoring 38 times in 181 appearances, which includes hitting double figures in both the 2021/22 and 2023/24 season, some Shrewsbury supporters have slammed the club’s departure letter, with one fan labelling it as ‘disgusting’.

The club’s statement reads: “Shrewsbury Town are disappointed to confirm Dan Udoh has turned down the offer of a new contract and has left the club to join Wycombe.
“Signed from AFC Telford United in May 2019, the striker made 181 appearances in blue and amber, scoring 38 goals.
“Dan’s contract with Town expired this summer.
“Negotiations with the forward began last August with the club going on to meet his demands in terms of wages and a three-year contract.
“But Dan has opted to leave after being offered more money elsewhere.
“Shrewsbury Town would like to thank Dan for all his service over the past five years.”
Several fans did not like the word the statement was worded, with this fan saying: “This is an absolutely disgusting statement and a spit in the face of one of the best players to play for this club in the past decade.”
Another said: “Offered him pennies when they offered pounds. Sour taste this statement and can't blame him for leaving.”

“Dan Udoh has been a brilliant servant.
“It is disappointing he is leaving, especially to a division rival - nonetheless, bad taste.
“I wish Dan all the best and hope he has 44 great league games next season.”
In an open letter to the Shrewsbury supporters, the club’s director of football Micky Moore said: “I – and all the staff at the club – would like to wish him the best of luck for the future.
“Dan had a real connection with our supporters. That connection was partly due to his performances and the goals he scored on the pitch.
“But it was also because of the way he conducted himself in and around the club.
“Dan is someone who always has a smile on his face and I know he was great with our fans and in the community.
“It was a real shame to see him move on.

“Contract negotiations began back in August.
“We offered him both the wages and the length of contract he wanted.
“But he has decided to move on and I wish both him and his family nothing but the best.”
