Sidney overcomes late Walton/Downsville rally for key MAC win

Jan. 24—The Sidney boys basketball team held on to defeat Walton/Downsville 46-42 at home in a key Midstate Athletic Conference contest Wednesday.

W/D had come back from a nine-point deficit after three quarters to tie it in the final minutes, but Jack Langstaff hit a three with 20 seconds left to put Sidney back ahead.

Grady Loeffler led Sidney in scoring with 11 points while Jalen Reardon added 10 points and Connor van der Sommen had nine in the win.

Tyler Reed had 11 points to lead W/D while London Gardner netted nine.

Sidney will host Unadilla Valley Tuesday while W/D will host Unadilla Valley Friday.

Milford 74, Windham-Ashland-Jewett 33

The Milford boys overcame a slow start Wednesday to defeat Windham-Ashland-Jewett 74-33 in a non-league matchup.

Trailing by two after the first quarter, the Wildcats outscored WAJ 20-4 in the second and never looked back.

Christian Lawson's big game led the way as he finished with 32 points and eight steals. Braden Murphy netted 18 points in the win while Aidan Mertz chipped in nine.

Eli Cercone led WAJ with a team-best 18 points in the loss.

Milford will host Sharon Springs next Tuesday.

Morris 64, Margaretville 46

Morris notched a 64-46 home win over Margaretville in non-league play Wednesday.

Carter Sawyer led the Mustangs with 18 points while Ryan Murphy and Tiger Ross each finished in double figures as well with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Connor Wayman was the Blue Devils' top scorer with 15 points while Hunter Balcom scored 10 and Tristan McVitty had nine.

Morris (8-5) will host Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Thursday.

Bainbridge-Guilford 50, Unatego/Franklin 43

Bainbridge-Guilford held off Unatego/Franklin 50-43 in a Midstate Athletic Conference home game Wednesday.

James Hogroian's game-high 22 points led the Bobcats while Michael Lipani also finished in double digits with 16 points.

Reese James had 16 points of his own to lead U/F while Braeden Johnson scored 13.

B-G (9-4 overall, 5-2 league) will host Harpursville Friday while U/F will be at home against Oxford the same day.

Deposit-Hancock 52, Unadilla Valley 41

Unadilla Valley fell to Deposit-Hancock 52-41 at home Wednesday in a Midstate Athletic Conference matchup.

Tucker Cattanach led the Storm with 19 points while Zach Smith pitched in 10 points.

Leading the Eagles in the win was Blake Fortunato with 20 points.

UV will visit Walton/Downsville Friday.

Edmeston held on for a 54-52 win over Madison in a back-and-forth affair Tuesday.

Izek Richards hit five three-pointers to finish with a game-high 23 points in the win. Gavin McEnroe had a big game as well with 18 points.

Edmeston (13-2 overall, 5-1 league) will host Sharon Springs Friday.
