Simon Jordan has warned Liverpool about a 'potential gap' in ability between new boss Arne Slot and Jurgen Klopp ahead of the 2024/25 season. The Reds will kickstart the campaign with a trip to Portman Road to face newly promoted Ipswich Town.

Liverpool is entering a new era under Slot next season following Jürgen Klopp's departure from Anfield after nine years in charge of the club. The 45-year-old former Feyenoord boss will have to wait to witness the home crowd in action, with the clash against Kieran McKenna's Ipswich side arriving first to start on August 17.

The Reds last faced a promoted side in the first game in 2021/22, as goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah rescued a point for Klopp's side against Fulham at Craven Cottage. Fans will be hoping Slot can one step further and secure all three points in his first Premier League game in charge of the club, although Jordan has warned the Dutch boss about the fixture.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan previewed the opening fixture against Ipswich where he highlighted the potential threat it poses. "If you're going to get these sides, you want to get them early," he said. "Liverpool are one of the powerhouses of the league and Ipswich have been away since 2001. McKenna comes with a lot of currency around him, there was a lot of talk about him joining one of the so-called bigger clubs.

"He's stayed with Ipswich and I admire him for that. He's going to build a reputation on solid thinking and he'll get another opportunity. Then you've got Slot in the post-Klopp era.

"We're going to see, if this guy [Slot] is any good then there won't be any problems for Liverpool. But if he is not and there is a gap between the perception of him and the reality of filling big shoes, then Liverpool might have a difficult time. I think Liverpool will of recruited well with Slot."

Liverpool.com says: With back-to-back promotions from League One, Ipswich will pose a real threat to Liverpool on the opening day of the season. Slot's men will need to remain focused and not underestimate the Tractor Boys, who will be hoping to cause an upset in the new boss's first game in the top flight of English football.
