Australian head coach Justin Langer said that he will become a better coach after attending a meeting with Australia’s leadership group and few members of the board.

Langer had a meeting with both the Australian captains Tim Paine and Aaron Finch along with vice-captain Pat Cummins to check on the progress of the national team. Cricket Australia chairman Earl Eddings and CEO Nick Hockley were also present in that emergency meeting.

I think we are all in a better place now: Justin Langer

Langer, who has been under the hammer for the last few months for his coaching style and relations with the team players, admitted the current situation is challenging but assured his critics that he will become a better coach from here.

“We all got a lot off our chests. I think we are all in a better place now. The situation at the moment is very tough, but I am confident that I will become a better coach from it,” Langer told The Western Australian.

On August 18, Hockley backed Langer to take the team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and The Ashes at home despite the chaos that was happening in the dressing room and back to back T20I series loss to West Indies and Bangladesh.

When you are losing, that is when the finger-pointing starts: Justin Langer

Langer feels the only way to shut the criticism and the noise in media is by winning matches and the coach also reminded everyone about Australia retaining The Ashes in England.

“When you win, everyone is happy and gets on with things but when you are losing, that is when the finger-pointing starts, and people look for excuses. We have had a rough trot in recent times but we retained the Ashes only a little while ago and were ranked No.1 in Test and T20 cricket not that long ago. Get back to winning and you won’t hear about anything else.”

Cricket Australia announced a 15-member squad led by Aaron Finch for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Australia will play the first match of the Super 12 stage against South Africa on October 23.
