Skipton bat brilliantly to down Menston as Steeton struggles in league go on

Steeton have only won two matches in the Aire-Wharfe League Premier Division compared to three in the cup this season.

Their batting failed them at second-placed Collingham on Saturday, who won the toss and scored 215-8.

That was despite skipper Stephen Pearson taking excellent figures 6-48, including dismissing all of the Collingham top four.

The visitors could only score 108 after tea, as Craig Walton and Adam Smith top-scored with 21 each.

Steeton are second bottom on 65 points, 30 ahead of seemingly-doomed Bilton but only 11 behind Tong Park Esholt.

Meanwhile, runs are continuing to flow for seventh-placed Skipton in Division Two.

After being sent in at Menston, the Sandylanders racked up an impressive 297-6, which included two century stands.

Openers Shahid Nadeem (55) and keeper Joe Birks (56) put on 121, both being dismissed within a run of each other, but then Luke Facey (73) and skipper Gary Owens (52) added 125 for the fourth wicket against the third-placed side.

Menston were miles away at 111-8 in reply, but an unbroken partnership of 143 improved things greatly and they finished on 254-8.

Noah Kennedy took 4-54 in Skipton’s 43-run triumph.
