‘SNL’s Colin Jost To Cover Olympic Surfing Competition From Tahiti For NBC

Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost has snagged quite an assignment for the 2024 Olympics. The Weekend Update anchor has been tapped to cover the surfing competition from Teahupo’o, Tahiti, part of French Polynesia, for NBCU. This will be the second-ever Olympic surfing competition after the sport debuted during the Summer Games in Tokyo in 2021.

Jost, a surfer himself, will travel to Tahiti in advance of the competition, which begins on July 27, where he will preview the waves and interview athletes.

“Colin Jost hit the NBC Sports jackpot with an epic assignment covering surfing in Tahiti for the Paris Olympics,” says Molly Solomon, Executive Producer and President, Production, NBC Olympics. “Although the setting is a little different than the Weekend Update desk in Studio 8H, Colin, an avid surfer, is going to bring his unique flair to reporting on the competition, athletes, and beautiful surroundings in one of the most breathtaking Olympic venues ever. Tune in to see if he catches a wave for America.”

“I’m honored to get to watch the best surfers in the world compete on one of the heaviest waves imaginable, and to help showcase the rich history of surfing in Tahiti,” said Jost. “And my Writer’s Guild Health Insurance is excited to see what the coral reef does to my back.”

Jost will share coverage with Joe Turpel handling play-by-play and analyst Michael Parsons who will be working from NBC Sports’ broadcast center in Stamford, Connecticut.

SNL cast member Kenan Thompson also will contribute to Olympics coverage, as co-host of an Olympics highlights show with Kevin Hart for Peacock, and former SNL cast member Leslie Jones will serve as “chief super fan commentator” at the games in Paris.
