Former Netherlands attacking midfielder Wesley Sneijder has revealed that he once rejected the chance to join Liverpool, but only after his agent "screwed up" a proposed move for him to go to Manchester United.

In 2013, ahead of the season in which Brendan Rodgers almost won the Premier League title with Liverpool, Sneijder had the chance to move to England but ended up picking Galatasaray instead. A couple of years earlier, when he was at his peak, he could have signed for Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

"The first one was for Man United, that was the thing my manager screwed up a little my agent at the time," he told talkSPORT. "And later on it was Liverpool, and I decided Galatasaray over Liverpool. Just because Liverpool was in that time not the Liverpool that it is nowadays."

Both Liverpool and Manchester United have Dutch coaches these days. And Sneijder believes it is likelier that Erik ten Hag will win a Premier League title before Arne Slot does.

"Because they have time to build something," he said. "The coach will stay and they are confident enough in the coach to build on something. So I believe they will be stronger this season than last season.

"They are both good coaches. Slot did an amazing job with Feyenoord and at United, they are very confident with Ten Hag. He has extended his contract, also Ruud Van Nistelrooy, I just got the news that he will be involved.

"So I think they can do a big job because they have amazing players at United. There has to be a team, they need time. That is what it is looking like so far, they give time to build a team. I think this season they will go for some prizes."

Liverpool.com says: At his best, Sneijder was a top player, and while Liverpool was not the same back then as it is now, it still would have been a bigger move than going to Turkey. The chances are, the finances came into it as well.
