Soccer-Man City go above Chelsea as WSL enters final week

MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) - Chloe Kelly scored twice as Manchester City cruised to a 4-0 home win over Birmingham City to go top of the FA Women's Super League on Sunday, but Chelsea are still in the driving seat as the competition enters its final week.

City lead the standings on 52 points after 21 of their 22 games, one point ahead of Chelsea who have a game in hand against Tottenham Hotspur that will be played on Wednesday.

Arsenal have all but secured third spot on 47 points, three ahead of Manchester United but with far superior goal difference.

With Chelsea busy beating Bayern Munich to qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League final earlier on Sunday, City knew there was no room for error if they were to keep the pressure on the Londoners. Kelly scored in the 10th and 23rd minutes to put them on the road to victory.

Manchester United needed an own goal from Yana Daniels 11 minutes from time to beat bottom side Bristol City, but Kim Little's stoppage time penalty secured the third European spot for Arsenal as they clinched a 2-1 win away to Everton.

Reading beat Brighton & Hove Albion 3-2 to climb above the Seagulls and into sixth place in the table, while second-from-bottom Aston Villa grabbed a vital point in their battle against relegation in a scoreless draw with West Ham United.

Villa could still find themselves relegated if they lose away to Arsenal in the last round of games next Sunday and Bristol manage an away win at Brighton.
