Bale has ‘never been closer’ to leaving Real Madrid
Pretty much ever since arriving on a then-record transfer in 2013, it’s seemed like Gareth Bale was about to leave Real Madrid.
That might finally be the reality, as his agent tells Sky Sports the forward is waiting for the green light from Real Madrid to fly to London and finalize a deal to return to Tottenham. It would be a season-long loan for a reported $26 million.
According to Sky, negotiations have reached the stage of lawyers drawing up contracts after Bale’s advisors spoke to Spurs.
Bale has scored 105 goals, including 80 in La Liga, in 251 games across all competitions over the past seven years. He’s won La Liga twice and the Champions League four times, scoring the game-winning goal in extra time of the 2014 final, a penalty in the 2016 final shootout and an absurd bicycle kick as part of a brace in the 2018 final.
Still just 31, and without the wear and tear other players might have had given the fact he’s been out of Zinedine Zidane’s plans for quite some time, Bale could be a difference-maker as Jose Mourinho and Spurs look to climb back into the top four.
