Social Chatter: A Hammering of a tweet, a cute Michael Clarke bids farewell and is the end nigh for John Terry?

The best and worst from social media over the last seven days.

WEST HAM GET A HAMMERING - FROM THEIR OWN EMPLOYEE

Football supporters don’t usually hold back on Twitter during Premier League games. That was certainly the case for one West Ham fan during Saturday’s 4-3 defeat to Bournemouth. The only problem was, the person involved was manning the club’s official Twitter feed. Whoever was behind the words below, made after Carl Jenkinson gave away a penalty as Bournemouth made it 4-2, was clearly unhappy with what they were seeing. The tweet was immediately deleted but the internet never forgets!

JOHN TERRY - IS THE END APPROACHING?

John Terry’s sending off against West Brom at the weekend sparked the usual memes and funnies posts on social media, but it also started talk over how much longer his career will last. Subbed off seven days earlier in Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester City, Terry’s season has started poorly. And it has opened a pertinent question - is the end approaching for the Chelsea defender? Some say yes, others - including Harry Redknapp - say a firm no. The debate will rumble on over the coming months no doubt.

USAIN BOLT WINS IT FOR THE GOOD GUYS

Usain Bolt’s victory over the twice-banned drugs cheat Justin Gatlin in the 100m at the World Championship athletics sparked plenty of debate on social media. The victory, many claimed, was one for the sport with the disgraced Gatlin being edged into second place. Bolt himself opted to leave pictures of his win do the talking along with the hashtag #BackToBack, pointing out he was retaining his world title.

MICHAEL CLARKE’S VERY CUTE FAREWELL TO THE ASHES

When Michael Clarke bid farewell to international test cricket in winning fashion in the last test against England at the Oval, the Australian skipper gave a glimpse of the moment he started on the route to stardom. The Australian captain posted a message to his instagram account after the victory: “Thank you to everyone who has played a part in me being the man I am today. Memories will last forever.” It was accompanied by a picture of him batting as a toddler beside another of him in the final stages of his career. From cradle to the Oval, it has been an epic journey for the man known as Pup.

THE EXTENT SOME FANS GO TO

Football fans are known for going to great extremes to follow their teams. But Football Manager addicts go the extra yard. Alessandro Colombini from Livorno in Italy had been managing League of Ireland Premier Division side Derry City on the game and decided to make the trip to see the Candystripes in real life. Not content with just going on a 5,000km round journey to see the game, he took printed off profiles of his Football Manager squad with him and got them all personally signed - to the bemusement of the Derry players.

FAIL OF THE WEEK - JIMMY ANDERSON’S INNER JOHN TERRY

Jimmy Anderson admitted it himself. He was doing a “John Terry” as England lifted the Ashes at the Oval. They may have lost the last test to Australia, but the Ashes were already in the bag. Having been ruled out of the last two tests with injury, Anderson was not going to miss out on the celebrating. So he put on his whites and cap and joined the team in the celebrations - replicating John Terry’s full kit celebrations after Chelsea’s Champions League triumph.
