SOCIAL CHATTER: Stars tweet from the crowd in Man United win and is Sunderland star for sale after horror debut?

James Matthews discovers that three Manchester United stars went undercover to watch the victory over Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.

Wayne Rooney was the match winner on the pitch as Manchester United defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the Premier League on Sunday…but three of his team-mates were the centre of attention off the pitch.

That’s because Phil Jones, Michael Carrick and Marcos Rojo were celebrating in the crowd with the fans when his goal went in.

It was a smash and grab victory for United as Rooney’s second-half strike eased the pressure a little on manager Louis van Gaal. It was United’s only shot on target in a largely one-sided game with the Red Devils having been battered by Liverpool for much of the clash.

Rooney posted to Instagram afterwards.

Rooney’s strike sent the travelling faithful into delirium and the celebrating fans included three injured United stars - Jones, Carrick and Rojo. All three were in the away end…and posted selfies of themselves with fans.

Jones was even captured celebrating behind the goal in which Rooney fired home the winner.

Meanwhile, there was no celebrating for another defender who 24 hours earlier had endured a nightmare Premier League debut.

Brought on from the bench for his first appearance for Sunderland, Jan Kirchoff had a horror start to his life in England.

The ex-Bayern Munich centre-back came on with Sunderland drawing 1-1 with Tottenham. Fifteen minutes later, he’d deflected in an own goal and conceded a penalty as Spurs took a 4-1 lead.

Twitter was not forgiving of the German’s display either.

He’ll enjoy better days, no doubt, unless Sam Allardyce takes him back and gets a refund.
