South Africa coach Rassie Erasmus has named a team containing seven uncapped players for Saturday’s Test match against Wales in Washington DC.

Lock Pieter-Steph du Toit will captain his country for the first time, leading a line-up that features international rookies Travis Ismaiel, Makazole Mapimpi, Andre Esterhuizen, Ivan van Zyl, Kwagga Smith, Jason Jenkins and Ox Nche.

A further six uncapped players are among the replacements, although Erasmus can call on starting XV experience with the likes of centre Jesse Kriel, fly-half Elton Jantjies and hooker Chilliboy Ralepelle.

The match will be a first in charge for Erasmus, who took over from Allister Coetzee this year, tasked with rebuilding a Boks team which had won just 11 of their 25 Tests since the start of 2016.

Meanwhile, Stuart McInally has emerged as an injury doubt for Scotland’s summer tour after suffering a calf injury.

The stand-in captain sustained the injury on the eve of the team’s departure to Vancouver and will continue to be assessed by the medical staff.

Although McInally remains with the squad, uncapped Grant Stewart has been called into the touring party as cover for the three Tests which sees Gregor Townsend’s side take on Canada, the United States and Argentina, starting on Saturday week.
