Southwestern blasts Whitley County

Mar. 19—The Southwestern Warriors, fresh off their first two victories of the season, returned to the War Path on a chilly Monday evening by welcoming in the Whitley County Lady Colonels, a team that had gotten out to a 4-0 start for their 2024 campaign. That unblemished record couldn't withstand the Warriors on this night however, as Southwestern got 18 runs across in four innings as they went on to defeat Whitley 18-4 in five innings of action.

Zoie Lowery had a fantastic day at the plate, collecting four RBI's on three hits to go along with a home run. Macie Gwin also had a home run go off her bat, collecting three RBI's of her own. Brynn Troxell and Lexi Martin each had two RBI's, while Jordyn McDonald, Kylie Dalton, Abigail Whitescarver and Arabella Lowery had a single RBI apiece. Dalton, Troxell and Martin each had doubles in the win, with Danielle Taylor hitting a triple. Whitescarver and Troxell each had two stolen bases, with Taylor and Emma Capito each getting one stolen base. McDonald earned the win on the mound, allowing four runs on six hits in five innings pitched while walking two and striking out four. Whitley County had an RBI apiece from four different players, with senior Amber Brown hitting a home run.

Southwestern, now 3-2, will be back on the road on Thursday as they travel to Rockcastle County for a game at 6 p.m.
