A dramatic weekend of sporting action at home and abroad brought great joy and desperate disappointment as prizes were handed out and dreams shattered.
Liverpool’s bid for a seventh European crown ended in agony in Paris, while Nottingham Forest ensured they will face the Reds in next season’s Premier League after Sunday’s Sky Bet Championship play-off final victory over Huddersfield at Wembley.
Rugby’s two codes brought extreme joy for La Rochelle and Wigan but heartache for Leinster and Huddersfield – the town suffered a double dose of sporting misery – while Sergio Perez roared to victory in a Monaco Grand Prix notable for Mick Schumacher’s spectacular crash and Novak Djokovic prevailed at the French Open despite a hostile response from the stands.

Sixth in last year's Northumberland Plate, six-year-old Trueshan went on to push leading long distance runner Stradivarius and won the Goodwood Cup, the Prix du Cadran and the Long Distance Cup on Champions Day. King had hoped to run Trueshan in the Ascot Gold Cup won by Kyprios but scorching temperatures in Berkshire meant that the gelding was re-routed to Newcastle instead.
Tottenham continue to pursue more signings as Antonio Conte plots a major overhaul of the squad. Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma have already arrived this summer, while both a new forward and a new defender have been targeted. Ideally, Conte is keen to wrap up Spurs’ summer business before the July 9 trip to South Korea, although there is an understanding that it will be difficult to do so.
Mike Brown's six years as assistant coach at the Golden State Warriors has come to an end, with the 52-year-old stepping back up to become head coach at the Sacramento Kings. Brown started the month by helping the Warriors defeat the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, only to immediately begin his role with the Kings one day after winning the series. It was confirmed that Brown would join the Kings back in May, and it seems the former Cavaliers and Lakers coach was keen to start his new role.
