Former Australian cricketer Mark Waugh came in support of his former teammate and Australia cricket team’s head coach Justin Langer.

Langer, who was appointed as the head coach of Australia after the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town, is recently under the hammer, with many demanding his removal as the team’s coach.

After Australia lost 1-2 to India in the Test series at home, Langer was criticised by his own players for his management skills and according to the reports, the coach and the players have disputes between them.

Australia’s latest failures in the tours of West Indies and Bangladesh, where they lost the T20I series by 1-4 in both countries, has put the spotlight again on Langer, who holds the contract till 2022 ICC T20 World Cup.

Mark Waugh feels that the Australian players’ poor performance is being overshadowed and the entire blame is pushed on his former teammate’s head and found it negative.

“It seems like the spotlight has been deflected from the players’ performance straight onto Justin Langer, which I think is unfair. He can’t bat and bowl for the players,” Waugh told Foxsports.com.au.

“I don’t know if that’s more player decision-making, or coach, or combined, but we got it wrong a couple of times last summer. That’s the only thing I can say that’s been negative about Justin Langer,” Waugh added.

On Thursday, Cricket Australia named a 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 with Aaron Finch, who is recovering from his knee injury, to continue as the team’s captain with Pat Cummins named as his deputy.

Australian players like Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Steven Smith, and David Warner were included in the squad, despite all these players having missed the action for the last three months. Apart from Smith, who suffered an elbow injury, all other players had opted out of the West Indies and Bangladesh series due to personal reasons.

Australia will play against South Africa in the opening fixture of the T20 World Cup.
