What we know about the Stamford Hill shooting
Police are appealing for witnesses after a shooting in north London left a woman with leg injuries.
Armed police were called to Stamford Hill on Tuesday evening following reports of a shooting. A woman was treated at the scene and taken to hospital for treatment.
Detectives are continuing their hunt for the shooter and are attempting to determine whether the shooting was deliberate or accidental.
What we know
Reports of a shooting were made to the Met Police are around 7.40pm on Tuesday evening. Specialist firearm officers descended on Reizel Close in Stamford Hill and found a 38-year-old woman who had been shot in the leg.
The London Ambulance Service also attended and treated the woman at the scene. She was taken to a hospital in east London, the Met Police said. Her condition is not life-threatening.
Detective Inspector Dave Hickford of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command said that they do not believe the woman was the intended target.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 7:41pm today (14 May) to reports of a shooting at Stamford Hill. We sent resources to the scene including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART). We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance.
“We treated a patient at the scene before taking them to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
Stamford Hill is an area with a large Jewish community but the Met said they do not believe the shooting was “hate related” or connected to international events.
Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, local policing lead for Hackney and Tower Hamlets, said: “This offence shows the dreadful impact of gun crime across all of our communities.”
The Met added that no arrests have yet been made.

What we don’t know
While we know that a woman was shot in the leg, we do not know the exact nature of her injuries and have yet to receive any update on her condition. No details have yet been released about her identity, other than her age.
Officers set up a crime scene but are still investigating the circumstances of the incident. Onlookers told MailOnline that the woman was accidentally shot as two rival gangs shot at each other in a drive-by shooting – but this has not been confirmed by the police.
No details of potential suspects have been released by police.
Eyewitnesses
Shopkeeper Said Popal, 29, told the Evening Standard that he heard “two shots” before seeing a woman on the ground surrounded. by people trying to help her. He said the woman “looked in a bad way”.
Papal added: “It’s totally shocking, we have not had a problem like this before. It’s frightening.”
A local mother said that her son heard the victim screaming “my leg, my leg”. She said she heard “two deafening gunshots echo around the street”.
She added: “At first I thought they were fireworks but it was the loudest noise I've heard in a long time. I saw everyone running into shops and cowering behind walls for safety.”
Another local who lives close to the crime scene told the Hackney Gazette that “two gunshots were heard”.
