Team India captain Virat Kohli said that his team is someone that every other team in the world wants to beat and he takes immense pride in that.

Kohli was appointed India’s captain in all formats after MS Dhoni stepped down from the role in early 2017. Since then India has tasted many achievements under his steward leadership, the team won its first Test series against Australia in their backyard in 2018/19 and retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year in Kohli’s absence.

In the times of the COVID-19 pandemic, India discovered its bench strength in all three formats and is at that position when two teams alternative teams can play simultaneously in two different countries.

Currently, India is playing in England for five Tests and the series stands at 1-1 and this will be their best chance to win a Test series after 14 years in England.

“We stand as the team that everyone wants to beat anywhere we play in the world and that for us is a matter of immense pride,” Kohli said in a launch ceremony of a new exclusive members’ club ‘The Chambers’.

“That was always our aim and I think, along with the brilliance of the whole team, the talent that we have been blessed with, we have been able to achieve that,” he added.

Kohli shares a very strong bond with head coach Ravi Shastri over the years which all began in 2014, as the Indian captain mentioned during Shastri’s new book launch event. Kohli said their vision is to take Indian cricket at the highest point and they have been supported by the entire team to achieve the dream.

“Our working relationship, and off the field as well, has been built on mutual respect and trust, on a vision that has been shared, which has been focussed in one direction which is to take Indian cricket higher and in a better place than we found it,” said Kohli.

“It’s his first book and I hope he writes a few more because he has a lot more to share,” he added.

India is currently playing the fourth Test against England at Kennington Oval in London.
