Standout young batsman impresses in Somerset Pathway matches

Fin Hill, who scored 160 for Somerset Boys Under 18s against Devon at Sandford CC in the ECB County Cup competition, was the standout performer in recent Somerset Pathway matches.

The right-handed batter, a part of the Academy who recently celebrated his 18th birthday, helped Somerset post 386 for eight from their 50 overs.

Fin contributed to an opening stand of 166 in 24.3 overs alongside Seb Linnitt, who made 54 off 60 balls with 10 fours, before being dismissed.

Fin then shared a subsequent second wicket partnership of 126 in 15.2 overs with Ben Church, before being out for 160.

This came off 122 balls and included 15 fours and eight sixes.

His partner, Ben, went on to score 69 off 54 balls with 10 fours.

Rishabh Shimpi later made 37 off 26 balls.

In response, Devon was all out for 248 in 48.5 overs, with Jamie Ogborne, Noah Lewis-Jones and James Theedom taking three for 37, two for 47 and two for 48 respectively.

A few days earlier, the Under 18s played against Warwickshire in the ECB T20 Group 2.

Warwickshire, after being put into bat, made 143 for six, with Noah Lewis-Jones claiming three for 31.

In their turn on pitch, Somerset was dismissed for 125 in 17.4 overs.

Thomas Rew, one of the openers, scored 55 off 50 balls with six fours and three sixes, taking the total to 95 before being the fifth wicket to fall.

After him, Blaise Baker hit a brisk 19 off 14 balls but Somerset fell 18 runs short.

Somerset Boys Under 16s also played against Cornwall in the ECB County Cup competition.

Cornwall, batting first, were all out for 232 in 41.3 overs.

Theo Lamey stood out among the bowlers, taking three for 28, while there were two wickets each for Thomas Watson and Wills House.

In response, Somerset lost early wickets and found themselves at 52 for five.

Theo Bennett then made a crucial 21 runs to move the score on.

They further slumped to 90 for eight before Jai Kumar and Thomas Watson combined for a ninth wicket stand of 61.

Jai was out for 22, followed by Thomas, the last wicket to fall having made 57 off 54 deliveries with five fours and two sixes.

Somerset were all out for 165 in 35.2 overs.

Finally, Somerset Under 13 Wyverns played against Cornwall, who posted 174 for eight from their 40 overs, with Jayden Cruikshank claiming three for nine from his five overs.

The Wyverns faced a top order turbulence and slumped to 38 for five before Harvey Webster-Jenkins, with an unbeaten 76 off 125 balls including six fours, and Ronan McNamara, who scored 52 not out off 61 balls making three fours, held fort.

They saw Somerset to 174 without further loss in the 37th over.
