Carlisle United fans have been giving us their reaction on social media platform X to the news of Charlie Wyke's return to Brunton Park.

Here's a selection of their comments.

People wanted a statement, and this is a big statement of intent. More of this please! (@SamTJohnston24)

A real statement, proven goalscorer at levels above, just what we’ve been after, just need some more pace in attack now to complement him, Armstrong and Kelly (@_olicaig)

Amazing signing. Well done Simmo and Greg. It also shows the backing from Tom and Patti for the team. Any players wavering about coming here will see that and be impressed (@tim_martland)

Great signing if we can add some pace and width to provide for him! Two wide players needed. (@JRBulman)

As proven as they come in regard to League Two strikers and great to have him in before the pre-season games. I don’t buy into the narrative that you shouldn’t re-sign former players when the circumstances are right. Look at the buzz it’s created. Time to add some pace in attack. (@nathan_ridley_)

Guaranteed goals, top class work rate, already got a great connection with the fans, very few players that can score against us and still be loved the way he is - just hope he can continue that League Two promotion he left us on in 2017 (@cufc_10)

Two years ago, the returning Moxon and Garner helped us to promotion glory. With Hayden and Wyke on board, can history repeat? (@cufcfanvote)

Buzzing. Statement signing that would not have been possible with the Carlisle of old (@mikebcarlisle)

Good track record, may have fallen a bit in production but someone who knows where the goal is. Worry is we won't have the players to create for the forwards, but a good solid acquisition. (@Dougmacd9826)

Intentions are the roots of actions; they shape the outcome even before the first step is taken. (@AJG82)

Unbelievable! Didn’t think it would happen. Thought he was off to Lg1 but delighted (@fish_blues)

Statement signing, without doubt. (@carlisl9125)

Another striker - gotta play more than one up front next season, go for it! (@fatflags)

Good finisher if we can get ball across the face of goal. We desperately need ball carrying pace out wide, players who can go past people. I worry Simmo will persist with 5-3-2, hitting big strikers from 50 yards away who can’t run in behind. No pace, no width CW be wasted. (@paulmason2000)

CUFC & obsessive compulsive disorder go hand in hand. (@Andythehood)

Our football club is a weird nostalgia project (@Shez204)

Now that is what I call a statement signing. Great news (@robert33642)

Fantastic news great signing (@PeterGi35842190)

Football's coming home. What's not to Wyke? (@JHallHDI)
