Former England fast bowler Steve Harmison mentioned that the Indian seamer Mohammed Shami has been bowling like more of an English rather than the current English bowlers. Steve Harmison was one of the heroes of England in the Ashes 2005 and he was quick enough with a good height to rattle any batsman.

Mohammed Shami put up a brilliant effort with the bat in the second innings at Lord’s and his unbeaten half-century was one of the turning points in the Test. Shami took the new ball alongside Bumrah and picked up the early wicket of Dom Sibley. He has been bowling really well despite not being in the wickets column and has maintained a lot of control as well.

Steve Harmison Opines Ishant Is Virat’s, Go-To Man

Steve Harmison mentioned the importance of Ishant Sharma in the bowling attack with his natural inswingers and reckoned that he can get it to nip away since he has a very nice seam position. He added Ishant can make the batsmen hard to judge where his off-stump stating it as one of the reasons for Virat to go to him.

“You’ve got a tall bowler in Ishant who likes to get the ball going in naturally and because he has such a nice seam position, he can at times roll his fingers a little bit and get the ball nip away.

“So that way he’s very very dangerous as you can be doubtful about where your off stump is. That’s why he is Virat’s go-to man as he can give him a lot of overs,” Steve Harmison told ESPN Cricinfo.

Harmison Heaps Praise On Shami

Steve Harmison compared Shami to be more of an English seamer who hits the deck hard and has a good core strength. He explained that Shami’s ability to swing the ball both ways makes him an excellent bowler. He added that Ishant and Shami have been complementing each other with the ball moving in different directions.

“Shami I think is more English than some of the seamers that we’ve got in our team because he runs up, he’s got great core strength, a big backside, a bit like Matthew Hoggard and my time. We used to have big backsides, could really swing it away in and around off stump and I think Shami is a fine fine bowler,”

“With that, you’ve got somebody like Ishant who is 6 foot or 4 and Shami who is about 5 foot 10. One is bringing the ball back in, the other is taking it away. They complement each other a lot,” he added.
