The new season started with success for the Isle of Wight's disability cricket team, on Sunday, May 5.

After losing the toss, the Isle of Wight started in bat, at Northwood Cricket Club.

In an innings that was interrupted, and eventually stopped, by rain, the Islanders posted 108-3, from 25 overs.

Ali Cotton top-scored for the home side, with an unbeaten 44 from 54 deliveries, including five fours and a six.

There were useful contributions from youth players Chris Hebberd and Pete Brown.

After the rain forced an early tea, Hampshire/Dorset began their innings requiring 109 from 25 overs.

The IW side took regular wickets to keep the visitors' run rate in check.

Kayton Evans (2-11) and Matt Rice (2-14) took two wickets each, with more dismissals for Brown (1-11), Hebberd (1-12) and Cotton (1-18).

There was a stunning catch by Declan Whittington, as Hampshire/Dorset's chase ended thirteen runs short, on 95-7.

Managers called it a great start to the season and thanked the players and their host, Northwood CC, for ensuring the game finished, despite the best efforts of the rain.
