Swansea’s worrying transfer window so far...

Another week, another handful of Swans transfer rumours, and some worrying signs for Swans fans.

Firstly it seems Bafetimbi Gomis is on his way out. Not everyone will greet this with jubilation (although I know some Swansea fans certainly will), but no one is going to lose sleep over this. He came, he promised at times, but ultimately he failed to impress and is rightly on the move - albeit temporarily - on loan to Marseille.

Now, as for players coming in, the rumours have been… underwhelming to say the least.

Firstly, it looks as if Australian international goalkeeper Mark Birighitti, formerly with Newcastle Jets, is close to signing with the club on a two-year deal on a free transfer.

He seems a decent prospect, but with three keepers already on the books it’s an area that doesn’t need strengthening. Or does it? There are rumours that Lukasz Fabianski could be poached by a bigger club, impressed with his Euro 2016 performances. If it’s not Fabianski, it could be Kristoffer Nordfeldt on the way out. Whatever happens with Birighitti, the Swans need to keep hold of star players like Fabianski to have a shot at anything more than mid-table next season.

Goalkeepers aside, it’s up top where the Swans are particularly weak - especially with Gomis heading off. There are reports that the club are looking at the in-form French forward Sebastien Haller, who netted 19 goals in 35 appearances for FC Utrecht last season. But with Tottenham, Everton, Sunderland and Crystal Palace all equally interested in the striker, don’t hold your breath.

Another rumour says that FC Lorient striker Benjamin Moukandjo is on Guidolin’s radar. The Cameroonian international scored 13 goals in 34 games last season, which is a very tidy return. He can do it in France, but can he do it in the Premier League? I feel the Swans should really be setting their sights higher than Moukandjo, who strikes me as another Gomis.

One rumour that persists with reason is the possible return of Joe Allen. The Swans have been in talks with Liverpool recently - who have now set his price at £14 million - and are clearly keen to have him back.

I’m not entirely convinced. Of course, Allen had a good run with Wales in the Euros, although he was pretty exposed in the final match against Portugal when Ramsey wasn’t on the pitch. Allen is a good player, but it still seems like a move backwards to me.

Besides, he may decide to follow Rodgers to Celtic instead. An ongoing story!
