Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield has reacted to his side’s recent 1-1 draw away at Cambridge United.

The Chairboys fell behind through a well-taken header by Gassan Ahadme with 20 minutes remaining, but a late Luke Leahy penalty rescued a point for the Chairboys.

His spot-kick came with nine minutes left.

Speaking after the game, Bloomfield said: “I enjoyed watching us and thought we were very good.

"We played with a very good intensity and energy which I liked.

“The goal against was disappointing as it was too simple – a one-two from a throwing, a simple throwing into the box and it was a header.

“We need to cut that out but we’ve been brilliant at the back recently.

“To show the character and fight was brilliant, and it was a clear trip on Nigel [Lonwijk] who I thought was brilliant.

“He missed last week due to Covid and he played well.

“What I liked was that the lads picked the ball up and ran back to the centre circle as they wanted the winner.

"We came out with a spring in our step as we wanted to impress ourselves and leave a mark on the game.

"We know that Cambridge have got a lot to play for so we needed to pick off their shape in how they pressed our fullbacks.

"We wanted to get the ball wide as much as we could.

“If you want to be a decent team, you can’t just rely on your home form so you need to be good on the road.

“At times this season, when we went to Oxford, Charlton and Peterborough, we could have got more points on the board as we played well.

“Since moving to four at the back, we’ve been solid.”
