Taunton St Andrews lose by 76 runs against visitors Bedminster

TAUNTON St Andrews' hopes of building on their first victory of the season in WEPL Premier One were dashed when they were beaten by 76 runs by their visitors Bedminster on Saturday afternoon.

After choosing to bat first, the visitors posted 303 for five from their 50 overs the feature of which was opener Max Tryfonos’ innings of 142, and 76 by Dylan Church, while for the hosts both Lloyd Alley and Jack Harding took two wickets apiece.

When the Saints replied they slipped to 13 for two before skipper Josh Thomas and Gabriel Gallman-Findlay added 44 together.

Two further wickets fell and the Saints found themselves 76 for five before James Matravers and Lloyd Alley added 109 together, when the latter was out for 41.

Matravers took the total onto 221 before he perished for 93 which he scored off 65 balls and included 12 fours and five sixes soon after which the hosts were all out for 227 in the 41st over. Tryfonos rounded off a good game with five for 52.

Saints Second travelled to play Castle Cary in the Premier Division of the Somerset Cricket League where after choosing to bat the hosts were bowled out for 69 in 27.2 overs, Graham Fitt claiming five for 11 off 4.2 overs.

The Saints reached 70 for three in 14 overs, Dan Godfrey ending 21 not out.

In Division Four Saints A team played Crewkerne who batting first made 194 for seven from their 40 overs, Ashley Lawrence top scoring with 54 while Chris Gould hit 47. Bradley Fawcett with six for 26 was the pick of the Saints bowlers.

In reply Saints openers Oliver Gunstone with 27 and Freddie Woolcott who made 23 got off to a good start.

However, wickets then tumbled before Jago Barclay with 53 off 59 balls with eight fours and Bradley Fawcett who ended unbeaten on 29, shared a ninth wicket partnership 45 before the visitors were all out for 159.
