Taylor Swift's sell-out concerts are set to hit Anfield in the coming days. But what surprises might she have in store?

The American pop sensation is currently on her global 'The Eras Tour', a sold-out celebration of her entire music career since her debut album was released in the US in 2006. Throughout the show, Taylor pays tribute to the different phases of her career and all her albums.

In recent weeks, Taylor has performed across Europe, including sell-out shows in Scotland. For Liverpool, whose former manager Jurgen Klopp is set to be in attendance with his wife Ulla, it's a major coup to be the hosting venue — one that is set to net the club millions of dollars.

She's now gearing up for three dates at Liverpool's stadium, as well as an incredible eight nights at Wembley Stadium. Thursday will mark her opening night at Anfield, which also happens to be the 100th date of her colossal tour.

Some fans, known as Swifties, have noted that the gig falls on June 13. With 13 being Taylor's lucky number, many are expecting some special occurrences tonight.

In the lead-up to the shows, there's been speculation about a potential new album, as well as a guest appearance from Liverpool legend, Sir Paul McCartney. Some also suspect that she may add several surprise songs to her setlist, adding to the impressive 45 songs she is already performing.

But what can fans expect? Liverpool.com takes a look at some tracks with potential ties to the club and the city.

I Can See You

It wouldn't come as a surprise if Taylor Swift' performed "I Can See You", having filmed the music video in Liverpool. Rumors circulated last year about her flying into Liverpool John Lennon Airport during a break from the US leg of The Eras Tour, and it was confirmed in July 2023 that the American superstar had chosen our beloved city for her music video.

The captivating music video showcased Taylor at various iconic locations around the city, including the renowned waterfront and the globally recognized Cunard Building. She also shot scenes in a former Natwest Bank building on Castle Street, which she revealed to fans at her Kansas City gig.

Red

Swift's "Red" era is a favorite among fans, producing numerous hits. The star re-recorded and released Taylor's Version in 2021, and as part of her Eras Tour, she performs cherished tracks like "22" and "I Knew You Were Trouble", along with the ten-minute version of "All Too Well".

The title track of her album, "Red", has many Swifties speculating that it could be performed at Anfield. As locals and others will know, Anfield Stadium is the home ground of Liverpool Football Club.

Given the club's nickname, The Reds, many believe Taylor might subtly acknowledge the team, its supporters, and its colors during her performance here. You can imagine how well that would go down with any Everton supporters in attendance, who are probably already fuming it's at Anfield.

The Lakes

Taylor Swift might only be hitting Liverpool and London on her tour, but fans are speculating that she could pay homage to another nearby spot. In 2020, the track The Lakes was featured in the deluxe edition of Taylor's eighth studio album, Folklore, drawing inspiration from her previous trips to the famous Lake District.

In her documentary, Long Pond Studio Sessions, Taylor Swift chatted about the inspiration behind her song with American musician Jack Antonoff. In a snippet, Jack, a close ally and musical collaborator, queried Taylor "What is the Lake District? " To which she replied: "It's in England and in the 19th Century it had a lot of poets. Like William Wordsworth and John Keats would spend a lot of time there and there was a poet district. These artists that moved there."

This link to poetry seemingly ignited the chorus of her song, The Lakes, which goes: "Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die. I don't belong, and my beloved, neither do you. Those Windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry. I'm setting off, but not without my muse."

The Albatross

Swifties are renowned for their love of theories - and while this one might seem a bit of a stretch, it does have ties to Liverpool. Fans will probably know about Taylor's collaborators over the years, but one in particular is a big LFC fan.

American musician Aaron Dessner, a founding member of the rock band The National and collaborator with Taylor Swift on her acclaimed albums Folklore and Evermore, is no stranger to Liverpool. In 2019, he revealed to Liverpoolfc.com that his band "planned their tour around LFC games."

He elaborated: "We actually schedule our tours around games. If I know there's a World Cup game or something on a day when The National is supposed to play, then I have to insist that we change the show! Sometimes we'll figure out how to screen a game before we play, and they [the other band members] are all really supportive of that.

"You know how it is, I'm a little crazy, but I really enjoy it. For me, it's how I relax, you just blow off steam and it's the one or two times in a week where you forget about stuff. The camaraderie of You'll Never Walk Alone, that sentiment is real."

Swifties have speculated that Taylor may give a nod to Aaron's love for Liverpool during a performance by singing a song they co-wrote. Most recently, they teamed up for the track The Albatross, featured in The Anthology edition of Taylor's latest album, The Tortured Poets Department.

The song has yet to make an appearance in any stage performances from the The Tortured Poets Department era. However, fans are speculating that it could be a contender. That, of course, is in addition to all of the songs on the standard set list.
