Steffi Graf would win 22 Grand Slam singles titles, Gabriela Sabatini just one.

For a period in 1990 and 1991, it was Sabatini that dominated their rivalry, playing the more assertive, inspired tennis, beating Graf in the US Open final, and standing two points from victory at the 1991 Wimbledon, with a new, adventurous, net-charging game.

According to The Tennis Podcast team, who are reliving great Wimbledon moments from the past this fortnight, what happened in that ‘91 final was a snapshot of their respective careers.

Sabatini had her moment, Graf won the title.

Speaking to commentator Mary Carillo and New York Times correspondent Chris Clarey, Tennis Podcast presenters Catherine Whitaker, David Law and Matt Roberts examine that final, their rivalry, their respective careers, and the way their lives unfolded and contributed to their results.

The fifth edition of Wimbledon Re-Lived will cover the classic 1992 men’s final between Andre Agassi and Goran Ivanisevic.
