WEYMOUTH boss Mark Molesley cautioned the Terras’ new era will not be “plain sailing” as the club develops its strategies for the future.

Weymouth are this summer placing greater emphasis on a connection from their youth setup to the senior team.

Illustrating the pathway, the club’s best under-23s will be training alongside the first team at Canford School this summer.

With the first team, Molesley will also be working his methods into his 13 committed players on the training ground, plus a handful of triallists.

Speaking to Echosport, he said: “The use of Canford is going to be great, we can facilitate the 23s being around us more.

“It’s exciting times for the club but it is a new era. The plans and things we’re putting in place like the 23s, our playing philosophy, our way of working, they are long-term.

“Sometimes there’s a bit of short-term pain and teething problems. It’s not going to be plain sailing.

“What we have got at this club is a vision for the long term and short. We’re just looking to get better, can we improve on last season?

“As with any manager, we’ve got to get to that (safe) points tally as quick as we can to secure the (National League) South and then push on as high as we can.

“We’ve got to get a philosophy embedded into the club, which goes from the first team all the way down, not just playing but the way we set our environments up.

“Since I’ve come in, the feel around the place is really professional. We’ve just got to create that on the pitch now.”

One of the changes Molesley felt compelled to highlight was the introduced of media manager Rian Harvey, who recently joined the Terras’ board.

Molesley said: “Off the pitch, we’ve had Rian join the board and he’s brought a real energy.

“It’s not just signings we’re making off the pitch, we really trying to grow the club going forward with the right people.

“I certainly think we’re getting them in place.”
