Teun Koopmeiners gave another update on his future after Atalanta’s Europa League triumph. The midfielder has been linked with a move to Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

Koopmeiners has been one of Atalanta’s stars on the way to the Italian side claiming its first-ever European trophy on Wednesday. Ademola Lookman’s sensational hat-trick saw them end Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten run, and end Xabi Alonso’s hopes of an unbeaten treble.

Liverpool fans were watching on with interest, with Koopmeiners being linked with a reunion with his former AZ Alkmaar boss Arne Slot. The 26-year-old caught the eye again after impressing at Anfield during the quarter-finals.

Italian outlet Tuttojuve claimed last week that Liverpool was in pole position to sign Koopmeiners this summer, with Juventus finding it difficult to match Atalanta’s $65m (£51m/€60m) valuation. Not only that, but the 26-year-old indicated earlier in the summer that he wants a move to the Premier League.

Koopmeiners though was much more coy when asked about his future following Wednesday’s final. The midfielder gave nothing away as he touched upon his plans for next season.

“I’m only happy to enjoy this title with the fans, I’m focused on celebrating,” Koopmeiners told Sky Italia (via Football Italia). “Next season? I don’t know. We will see.”

Koopmeiners though insisted earlier this year that he wants a move away from Atalanta, while also talking up his chances of moving to the Premier League.

“I have indicated to Atalanta that I want to make a move next summer. But there must be something very nice to exchange that for Atalanta,” he told De Telegraaf in March.

“My girlfriend and I are having a great time in Italy, but I can put up with the rain for some clubs in England!

“I hope there will be great options that I can think about. And then I hope that Atalanta receives a nice amount for me, because I had a wonderful time there.”

He added: “I would be lying if I said that I did not hear the rumored interest from Juventus and Premier League clubs. Of course I read that too or get it forwarded to me.”

Liverpool.com says: It’s a much more measured approach from Koopmeiners this time. Perhaps Atalanta qualifying for the Champions League now has made him rethink his summer plans.

If he does still want a move away, then it will be interesting to see whether Liverpool goes in for him. The Reds have been linked plenty of times over the years with his services, and no doubt Slot’s arrival will add more fuel to the speculation.
