The Job That Makes People Happiest Is - Being A Housewife (Or Househusband)

Being a housewife is often portrayed as endless, thankless drudgery - but it’s the job that makes people happiest, according to a new survey.

Just one in seven stay-at-home parents is dissatisfied with their role - whereas in some jobs, up to half of people are dissatisfied.

Stay-at-home parents were asked whether they were happy in their role - and 87.2% said yes, according to the poll of 3,000 people by insurer LV=.

That contrasts with jobs such as marketing, advertising and PR, where just 53.8% said they were happy.

Other jobs come close to matching being a housewife, though - with 86.3% of people in hospitality and events management saying they were happy, and 83.9% of people in the charity sector.

Myles Rix, Managing Director of Protection at LV=, said: ‘Despite being crucial to many households in the UK, very few families have protection in place that would allow them to pay for help if the homemaker was unable to do their day-to-day tasks.

‘It makes sense to guard against unnecessary household stress by ensuring that both the breadwinner and homemaker are covered by income protection.’
