'There's a pretty crazy thing about him' - Kylian Mbappe blown away by Liverpool player

Kylian Mbappe has explained why he's delighted to have Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate as a teammate at Euro 2024.

Konate will be one of several Liverpool players who will be competing at the European Championships this summer, which is being hosted in Germany. Italy go into the competition as defending champions having beaten England at Wembley Stadium three years ago.

Mbappe and Konate are part of the France squad that will be looking to win the tournament. It was recently confirmed that Mbappe, who has been frequently linked with a move to Liverpool, would be joining Real Madrid this summer.

Konate endured a difficult season at Liverpool, where he made 37 appearances in all competitions. However, the centre-back was left as an unused substitute for eight of the final 12 Premier League fixtures by former manager Jurgen Klopp, with Jarell Quansah often getting the nod alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Now Konate will be looking to enjoy a successful tournament on the international stage before returning for pre-season training under new head coach Arne Slot. Mbappe has stated why he is happy to have Konate in the squad and explained what the Liverpool defender brings to the France set-up.

"Ibou! Super player and super guy," Mbappe told Ouest-France.

“There’s a pretty crazy thing about him: on the field, he’s an absolute beast who you don’t want to cross, but outside, he’s a cream, a very cheerful and friendly guy. He’s really melted into the group very quickly.

“In fact, it’s like he has been there for ten years, while he arrived two years ago. It is one of his greatest strengths, beyond the footballer who is constantly growing.

“He takes on importance in the group. He does not hesitate to speak. He is really good. He took the place of holder that occupied, Raph (Varane), in central defence, a game sector with a lot of competition, where we have a sacred pool in France.

“We are very happy to have him with us.”
