'I think it was vs Tottenham' - Ian Wright has sly dig at Ange Postecoglou in England message

Ange Postecoglou is making his Euro 2024 debut on Saturday evening. The Tottenham Hotspur boss was signed up by ITV for the European Championships in Germany but Spurs fans have had to wait to see him in action.

Following the end of the Premier League season - and a post-season friendly in his homeland of Australia - Postecoglou took a well-deserved break. But his punditry debut has come as Belgium take on Romania in Group E on Saturday night.

And he was in fine form early on in the piece, having a little dig at Ian Wright for not being calm about England's situation, following the Three Lions' 1-1 draw with Denmark on Thursday night.

That draw led to plenty of criticism of Gareth Southgate's side, despite the fact a win in the final group game against Slovenia on Tuesday will see Englsand top Group C.

But while Postecoglou was accused by Arsenal legend Wright of "outing him" for his lack of calm over England's situation, Wright got his own back moments later.

When discussing England's selection dilemma for the Slovenia game, fellow pundit Karen Carney brought up the topic of John Stones playing in midfield for England, like he has done at domestic level for Manchester City. She said: "I think I'd like to see John Stones play the role he did for Man City, going from the back and going into midfield."

And Wright agreed. He followed up: "What Karen's saying about John Stones and how briliant he was going through the pitch from centre-half, I think it was against Tottenham I've seen him do that well."

Postecoglou has become fondly known for calling everyone "mate" since he has been in England with Spurs and he did not let us down by interrupting Wright and saying: "Thanks, mate" as if to thank the Arsenal man for bringing up the fact Stones and City had the better of his team this sesaon.

City beat Spurs twice in 2023/24 - once in the Premier League and once in the FA Cup fourth round - with one draw between the two sides in the league too.
