Thomas Galdames has broken his silence on transfer links to Rangers this summer - admitting he'd love a crack at European football.

The defender, 25, currently plies his trade with Godoy Cruz in Argentina but has been linked with a move to Ibrox with Philippe Clement looking for more options at the back. Nils Koppen, the club's recruitment chief, has been busy working on possible options on Latin America including Damian Garcia and now Galdames has explained how he could leave his current club should the right opportunity present itself.

He did, however, admit that he'd prefer not to leave on a free and instead bring cash back into Godoy Cruz to thank the club for their platform over his year there.

“Nothing is known yet, I have a contract until December. I always dreamed of playing in Europe. I want to take this market calmly and be able to leave something for the club. I am very grateful to Godoy Cruz,” he told Bodegue.

“Knowing that I have six months left, anyone hopes to go free, but I don't want that. If I go to this market, the idea is to return one day. I loved the club, the people, the city, they made me feel like one of you. My idea is to give back what the club did with me.”
