Mikel Arteta has been told by a former Arsenal star the three marquee signings he should make in this summer's transfer window. Following another impressive season, Edu and Arteta will surely be out to strengthen their squad while also raising funds through senior departures.

Due to profit and sustainability rules, several Premier League clubs, likely including Arsenal, must sell first before buying. Thomas Partey, Aaron Ramsdale, Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson are among those who could depart with the club's transfer strategy tailored to raising the floor of the side rather than the ceiling.

Though that does not rule out Arsenal changing plans if a unique or too-good-to-turn-down market opportunity arises, with exactly that in mind, Emmanuel Petit has told Arteta the three players, which include the £42million Nico Williams, he must bring to Arsenal.

As part of bet365’s Euro 2024 coverage, Petit said: "Arsenal’s dream signing this summer would be Nico Williams. I've been watching him in Spain with his club, but he has impressed me a lot during Euro 2024, especially against Italy. It was a nightmare for the right back.

"I think this guy could have a huge impact at Arsenal. People have also mentioned Benjamin Sesko, but I think Arsenal need to look at Victor Osimhen at Napoli, this guy has all the character he needs to thrive. He’s got great ambition and when I mention his character, he reminds me of players who were in the Premier League back in the day, huge characters.

"He will work incredibly hard on the pitch and Arsenal are desperate to get a real striker. Osimhen can hold two central defenders easily. He can play on the ground, he can play in the air. It will be important as well for set pieces." Osimhen is still expected to depart Napoli this summer with his asking price recently lowered to €100million (£84.6m).

Petit also wants to see the Gunners bring in a versatile defender with Bologna's Riccardo Calafiori, someone who has impressed him. "I have loved watching Riccardo Calafiori at Euro 2024, against Croatia he was so determined, I like him a lot," he said.

"He is powerful, he has pace, he’s very aggressive, he's young and you could see that mentally this guy is strong as well. When I was watching him I was thinking that this guy could be a good addition for English clubs - and Arsenal would be very good for him.

"Arsenal need someone who is versatile, he can play as a central defender but he can play in other positions too. He's got pace, he's intelligent with the ball and doesn't make a lot of mistakes on the pitch. He's very focused and good tactically too.

"He would fit in perfectly at Arsenal but with Chelsea too. Manchester United as well. I'm pretty sure that Premier League clubs will try to sign him, and that might stop him from joining Juventus." Liverpool are also said to be interested in the 22-year-old with Arne Slot recently told he would cost in the region of £40million.
