Jack Butland

Given Stoke City’s woes under Mark Hughes in recent weeks, Liverpool could perhaps capitalise and tempt Jack Butland to Anfield in January. The Potters’ goalkeeper has ambitions of being England’s number one at the World Cup next summer. Not such an unrealistic ambition given Joe Hart’s struggles at West Ham. Butland has conceded 33 times times in 15 games – hardly numbers that will convince Gareth Southgate to drop Hart in favour of the Stoke man. Liverpool could capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding Mark Hughes and Stoke. At 24, his best years are ahead of him.

Fraser Forster

Another England and Premier League option is Fraser Forster. Liverpool have form when it comes to poaching promising players from Southampton. Indeed, the Reds have already snapped up Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Sadio Mane and Nathaniel Clyne. Liverpool have also been linked Forster’s team-mate Virgil van Dijk. The pair played together at Celtic and Southampton. Forster is another contender to be England number one at the World Cup next summer. At 29, he would be a signing for present, not the future.

Jan Oblak

Looking in Europe, Atletico Madrid shot stopper Jan Oblak has a big reputation. The Slovenia international has already been linked with a host of top European clubs. The 24-year-old has experience in the Champions League after featuring in Atletico’s loss to Real Madrid in 2016. Oblak impressed in Slovenia’s recent game against England in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers at Wembley to leave Liverpool fans excited about his potential addition. Indeed, if Jurgen Klopp lured Oblak to Liverpool, the Merseyside outfit’s goalkeeping woes would be solved for good!
