Three left-backs Liverpool could sign this summer

Ben Chilwell

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Leicester City’s highly-rated Ben Chilwell in recent weeks. The 19-year-old is already a regular in England’s youth set-up. The Foxes starlet didn’t make an appearance in Claudio Raniei’s side for their title-winning Premier League campaign. However, Chilwell did rack up three appearances in cup competitions. According to ITV Sport, Liverpool are on the brink of signing the Leicester youngster. However, the Bedford-born defender would be a signing for the future and probably wouldn’t strengthen a position that needs improving.

Raphael Guerreiro

If the Lorient chief executive is to be believed then Liverpool have already submitted an offer for Rapheal Guerreiro. The left-back has been attracting interest from some of Europe’s top clubs, including Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund. The 22-year-old is already first-choice for Portugal and could attract the eye of even more clubs at this summer’s European championships. Guerriero has scored 10 times in 110 appearances for Lorient.

Joe Gomez

Ok - Joe Gomez is already a Liverpool signing. But considering that the 19-year-old hasn’t played for the Reds since October his return from a knee injury in pre-season will be like a new arrival for Jurgen Klopp. Amid all the talk of a replacement for Alberto Moreno, Gomez’s presence in the squad appears to have been forgotten. The England Under-21 international was exceptional in the opening three Premier League games of the 2015/16 season under Klopp’s predecessor, Brendan Rodgers. While his long-term future is thought to be at centre-half, Gomez could be a capable alternative at left-back next term.
