Three Liverpool players with a point to prove v Tottenham

Simon Mignolet

Jurgen Klopp made the decision to anoint Loris Karius as his first-choice goalkeeper over the past six weeks. Frustratingly for Klopp, his summer signing hasn’t really convinced in the Liverpool goal as the manager - and most Reds supporters - would have hoped. The German has confirmed that Simon Mignolet will start against Tottenham in the League Cup on Tuesday night. With Karius looking decidedly unsteady in the Liverpool goal, Mignolet will see it as a chance to produce an assured performance and put his rival under pressure.

Alberto Moreno

Alberto Moreno hasn’t started a Premier League game since Liverpool’s 4-3 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The Spain international conceded a penalty and was at fault for Theo Walcott’s goal. However, Klopp revealed in one of his recent media conferences that Moreno has been Liverpool’s best player in training. In spite of his shocking hair change, it’ll be interesting to see if Moreno has made an improvements against a good Tottenham side.

Divock Origi

It has been suggested that Liverpool’s lack depth up front should be a concern if something happens to Roberto Firmino or Daniel Sturridge. Belgium striker Divock Origi is waiting in the wings. The former Lille man had a great spell in the second half of the 2016-17 season before suffering an ankle injury in the Merseyside derby in April. Origi will get the chance to prove himself against the Premier League’s best defence on Tuesday night.
