Three reasons why Liverpool can beat Man Utd

Momentum

Liverpool have momentum on their side after their recent run in the Premier League and the Europa League. Their League Cup final penalty shootout defeat could have prompted a Liverpool collapse in the final stretch of the season, but Jurgen Klopp’s side have responded admirably. The Reds effortlessly dismissed Manchester City 3-0 at Anfield, before showing resilience to come from 1-0 down with 10 men to secure a 2-1 win at Crystal Palace. Klopp’s side swatted away a “shambolic” Manchester United side thanks to a 2-0 first-leg win. The momentum is with Liverpool ahead of Thursday night’s clash – not to mention, the Reds are one of three sides to remain unbeaten in the Europa League this season.

“Shambolic” Man Utd

Paul Scholes slammed United’s performance last week as the Red Devils legend looked noticeably uncomfortable sat next to a jubilant Steve McManaman in the BT Sport studio. The 20-time English champions offered very little to threaten Simon Mignolet’s goal. If Scholes had hoped for a response on Sunday afternoon, the retired England midfielder was left disappointed. United required an Anthony Martial equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw with West Ham in their FA Cup quarter-final.

Liverpool’s record on the road

The Reds shouldn’t be overawed by the task of securing their Europa League progress at Old Trafford. Liverpool have already beaten Manchester City and Chelsea on the road in the Premier League this season. The Merseyside haven’t won at Old Trafford since a Luis Suarez-inspired Liverpool were 3-0 winners against United in 2014. Time for Klopp to notch another impressive away win to his belt?
