The National Women’s Soccer League has unveiled photos of their collaboration with Tiffany & Co. for the NWSL Championship trophy and MVP award redesign, which comes just before postseason action begins on Oct. 20.

This is the first time that the NWSL Championship and MVP award has had a change in design since the league's first season in 2013.

“Their influence both on and off the field is deserving of a top-tier trophy and we’re grateful to our partnerships at Tiffany and Co. for their invaluable collaboration in creating a prize befitting the best women’s soccer league in the world,” said NWSL Chief Marketing & Commercial Officer Julie Haddon in the press release. “We look forward to our continued partnership as we collaborate on reimagining the rest of our end-of-year awards, including the NWSL Shield.”

What did the previous trophy look like?

The previous trophy was a large pentagon shape and featured the silhouette of a woman kicking a ball, which is the NWSL logo. The NWSL followed the trend of other sports leagues, such as the NBA, NFL, and MLB, which often use silhouettes of a person performing a recognizable action in the sport to make it clear what the trophy represents.

The NWSL said in the memo that the reimagined Championship trophy combines modern aesthetics with traditional elegance. The new trophy is similar in design to the FIFA Women's World Cup and has a sleek look with four spiraling sides made of 24K gold vermeil and sterling silver that lead to a soccer ball, which is the centerpiece of the trophy design.

The league’s top performer in 2023 will receive the regular season MVP award. The redesigned award is made of 24K gold vermeil and sterling silver and features two prongs holding a soccer ball.

In the NWSL quarterfinals that begin Friday, October 20th, the OL Reign will host Angel City FC at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington, at 10:00 p.m., ET.
