Tigers pin 17-0 loss on Crimson Storm

Mar. 5—BETHANY — The East Central University baseball team secured their first Great American Conference win of the season with a commanding 17-0 run-rule victory over Southern Nazarene University Friday in Bethany.

The win marked a milestone for the Tigers, as they had not shut out an opponent since April 5, 2019, against Ouachita Baptist University.

In an impressive offensive display, the Tigers broke out their bats, racking up 17 runs on 19 hits, while holding the Crimson Storm to just two hits and capitalizing on two errors.

Six different ECU players had multiple hits in the game, including Nick Blankenship, DeAngelo Morales, and Chris Griffis tallying three hits. Kale Williams, Tanner Collins, and Britton Sperry added two hits apiece. Every player in the lineup recorded at least one hit.

The Tigers scored in four different innings, highlighted by a home run from Griffis, a triple by Williams and doubles from Williams, Blankenship, Christian Whitaker and Morales.

The scoring was consistent throughout the game, with three runs in the first inning, four in the fourth, one in the sixth, and a whopping nine in the seventh.

Starting pitcher Bryan Terry showcased one of the most dominant performances of his career, delivering a complete seven-inning game, allowing just two hits and no runs while striking out six batters to clinch the victory.

East Central's Nick Blankenship, a senior from Sherman, Texas, finished 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, two walks and three runs scored in the Tigers' 17-0 road win over Southern Nazarene Friday in Bethany.
