TikToker tries on mom’s 1994 senior prom dress and it still slays
A teen on TikTok is proving yet again that the ’90s are back and here to stay (well, at least for a little while longer).
Ava Marie (@ava.mari3) recently re-wore her mother’s prom dress from 1994, showing up in the black halter gown with white beaded detailing for her own senior prom nearly 30 years later.
And while you might expect the look to feel dated or even unflattering by today’s standards, it actually looks like something she could have pulled off the rack yesterday.
In her viral TikTok, Ava shows a still photo of her mom wearing the dress as a teen right before she headed to the dance. Then the content creator models the gown for herself a whole generation later — earning some pretty rave reviews in the process.
“STUNNING!” one person commented.
“Now that is the definition of a ‘TIMELESS dress,'” another added.
“The dress is FIRE!” someone else told her.
Others said they were “obsessed” with the look and told Ava it was “an honor” to be able to reuse something her own mother wore and then carefully preserved for all these years. In fact, a few people were even inspired to do the same.
“keeping my prom dresses 4 ever,” one person declared.
The post, which now has more than 7.3 million views, also sparked an interesting (and totally unexpected) debate in the comments section: Which celeb does Ava’s mom most resemble?
“ur mom in high school looked like Selena Gomez,” one TikToker pointed out.
“Your mom looked like Kelly Kapowski,” said another, referencing Tiffani Amber Thiessen’s character from Saved By the Bell.
In the end, the votes seemed to be split on that one, but we gotta say — Ava’s mom really did have an uncanny resemblance to both women.
