Timberwolves' Jaden McDaniels celebrates $136M contract with trip to Olive Garden

The Minnesota Timberwolves and forward Jaden McDaniels have agreed to a five-year, $136 million contract extension, making him one of the Timberwolves' highest-paid players as he enters his fourth season in the NBA. The Timberwolves did not disclose the details of the multi-year contract, but McDaniels can expect to make Minneapolis home for the years to come.

After signing his new contract, McDaniels said he headed to Olive Garden to celebrate the deal with breadsticks and salad.

"We ate the whole basket," McDaniels said when asked by a reporter how many breadsticks he ate at his celebration meal.

Jaden McDaniels stats

McDaniels started in 79 games and averaged 12.1 points and 40% from the three-point line for the Timberwolves in the 2022-2023 NBA season. McDaniels has spent the three years in Minneapolis since being drafted 28th in the 2020 NBA draft out of the University of Washington.

McDaniels joined the Huskies in 2019 and played 31 games, including 21 starts and averaged 13.0 points and 5.8 rebounds in his only year at Washington before declaring for the draft.

The Timberwolves had also agreed to an multi-year contract extension with guard Anthony Edwards earlier this offseason.

"This organization has everyone back, and I am comfortable here," McDaniels said during the Timberwolves media availability on Wednesday. "Every year since I've been here, we've gotten better and I feel like we're all building something together."

McDaniels hints at Saturday return

The Timberwolves announced that they will be without Jaylen Clark and McDaniels in their 2023-24 season opener on Wednesday against the Toronto Raptors.

McDaniels suffered a calf strain earlier this month, has been limited in practice and is considered day-to-day.

McDaniels hints in a video posted to the Minnesota Timberwolves X (formally Twitter) that he is excited to see fans in Miami on Saturday, Oct. 28, for the second game of the season, indicating a possible return.
