Tommy DeVito to start at quarterback for New York Giants against Dallas Cowboys

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. − Tommy DeVito was a long shot to make it to the NFL, let alone stick as an undrafted free-agent quarterback.

The idea of DeVito being the starting quarterback for the New York Giants in Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys, in front of 90,000-plus inside AT&T Stadium and millions watching around the world − well, the odds of that taking place were astronomical.

Yet that's exactly what is going to happen.

DeVito will get the start against the Cowboys, Giants head coach Brian Daboll announced Wednesday.

Two weeks ago, the 25-year-old DeVito was on the practice squad, the local "legend" from North Jersey, as Daboll called him back in the spring, who fought just about every week to stay a part of the team.

Last week, DeVito was the backup for a returning Daniel Jones, added to the active roster in what amounted to a huge leap in the career of the former Don Bosco star who had earned the promotion.

Now, with Jones out for the season with a torn ACL, DeVito finds himself atop the depth chart, and the only thing crazier than that is the journey by which he got here.
