Tottenham duo Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero free of quarantine but face late call ahead of Newcastle
Tottenham will make a late decision whether to include their quartet of South American internationals for Sunday's trip to Newcastle but have been boosted by confirmation that Argentine duo Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero no longer have to quarantine.
It had been agreed before the international break that players returning from red-list countries would enter into 10 days of bespoke quarantine, where they would be allowed to train and play competitive games but not leave for any other reason.
Spurs had arranged for their four South American players - Argentina’s Romero and Lo Celso plus Colombian Davinson Sanchez and Brazil’s Emerson Royal - to quarantine in the Lodge at Hotspur Way.
However, with Argentina now having been removed from the UK Government's travel red list, Lo Celso and Romero no longer have to quarantine.
Colombia remains on the red list, however, meaning Sanchez and Royal will still have to spend 10 days isolating at Spurs Lodge following Sunday’s goalless draw with Brazil in Barranquilla.
Tottenham face Newcastle in the 4.30pm BST kick-off at St. James' Park on Sunday, though face a tight window in which the South American quartet can get back from international duty.
Colombia face Ecuador late on Thursday night UK time, while Argentina play Peru in the early hours of Friday morning.
Spurs are planning to fly the four players back via private jet immediately after their games and will make a call on whether they are able to face Newcastle once they are back in the country.
