Daniel Levy has warned Tottenham players their excellent performances this season are no guarantee of new contracts.

Tottenham are closing in on second place in the top flight, which would be their highest finish in the Premier League era. They have already secured their record points total in the competition.

Spurs chairman Levy has a record of improving players’ terms regularly. All of the key first-team players, bar Toby Alderweireld and Victor Wanyama, have signed at least one new deal since the start of 2016.

Tottenham’s top earners, Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris, earn about £100,000 a week — less than the best-paid players at the other top six clubs. Defender Kyle Walker is aware he could double his £70,000-a-week salary if he joined Manchester United or City and has held talks with manager Mauricio Pochettino about his future.

In a recent meeting between the board and members of the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust, Levy was asked about players’ contracts.

The minutes of the meeting recorded his response thus: “DL [Levy] said all players were under contracts, contracts they were happy to sign at the time.

“They would be expected to honour those contracts. They wouldn’t have had a reduction if things had gone badly. DL said no player would be sold who Tottenham didn’t want to sell for non-footballing reasons.”
