Tottenham have rejected Brentford’s loan bid for Djed Spence as the offer included a purchase obligation in the deal.

With Pedro Porro expected to join from Sporting before the end of the transfer window, Spurs have given the green light for Spence to leave the club on loan until the end of the season but they will insist that any deal does not include an option or obligation to buy the England U-21 international.

Southampton, Leicester and Ligue 1 side Lyon are also interested in Spence, who has been restricted to just four substitute appearances in the Premier League since joining Spurs from Middlesbrough in the summer, totalling less than 10 minutes.

Porro is set to become Spurs’ second January signing following confirmation on Wednesday of Arnaut Danjuma’s loan move from Villarreal, which includes an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

Danjuma is set to train with his new teammates for the first time on Thursday ahead of Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round tie at Preston.
