New Tottenham head coach Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to bolster his defence after taking over in north London.

Spurs are in talks with Bologna over a deal for Japan international Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The 22-year-old can play centre-back or right-back, two problem positions for Spurs over the past year, and has been on the radar of a number of Premier League clubs.

London rivals West Ham have held interest in Tomiyasu in the past while Southampton and Aston Villa both made offers for the defender in January. Southampton went back in February looking to get a deal over the line ahead of the summer but it was thought a bigger move was possible.

Spurs are said to have long held interest in the Bologna defender, who made 31 appearances in Serie A last season, though former manager Jose Mourinho was not a fan.

Tottenham are also interested in Danish defender Joachim Andersen who has returned to Lyon after impressing on a season-long loan with Fulham despite their relegation back to the Championship last season.
