Sevilla manager Jorge Sampaoli has admitted the club’s interest in signing Tottenham forward Bryan Gil.

The 21-year-old is known to have admirers in Spain and began his career at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium before moving to Spurs in the summer of 2021.

First-team opportunities have been hard to come by in north London, although assistant manager Cristian Stellini did recently suggest Spurs had opted to keep Gil despite interest from LaLiga.

Antonio Conte has previously held reservations as to Gil’s physicality but an injury crisis opened the door for the player, who did impress during the 4-0 win away at Crystal Palace earlier this month.

Still, the loan signing of Villarreal forward Arnaut Danjuma has given Conte another option to a forward line that already sees Lucas Moura, Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski and Heung-min Son compete to partner Harry Kane.

During a pre-match press conference, Sampaoli revealed his interest in Gil, stating he wanted to sign the forward during his time in charge of Marseille too.

“Yes, he fits the profile I want because I already wanted him for Marseille,” he said.

“When I was there I called him personally. It would be very interesting for our wings, but I’m not participating in the possibility of him getting here.”
