Tottenham have a "verbal agreement" with Metz over a deal to sign wonderkid Pape Matar Sarr, the Ligue 1 side's president has confirmed.

Reports surfaced late last week that Spurs had beaten the likes of Manchester United, Man City and Chelsea to the 18-year-old's signature.

Sarr, a box-to-box midfielder, is one of Europe's most highly rated players after an impressive rise to prominence at Metz.

Spurs were reportedly closing in on a deal worth around £12m, but Bernard Serin says the final figure would be "much greater" and include Sarr spending the season on loan at Metz.

"Nothing is signed, but I have a verbal agreement with the president of Tottenham", he told Amazon.

"It is much more [than €15m], both on the fixed amount and the bonuses. Pape Matar must also be satisfied with the contract offered to him and this is not yet the case.

"There will be more discussions at the start of the week."

He added: "If the transfer is to Tottenham, he will be loaned to FC Metz [for the season]."
