Tottenham vs Everton LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today
Tottenham ended Everton's four-match winning run in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory on Saturday thanks to goals in the first 18 minutes by Richarlison and Son Heung-min.
Richarlison, again playing in a central-striker role, swept home a first-time shot from Brennan Johnson's right-wing cross to give Spurs the lead in the ninth minute at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Son then scored his 11th goal of the campaign by converting into the bottom corner after Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford parried out Johnson's shot into the middle of the area.
The win lifted Tottenham into fourth place above Manchester City, which was inactive in this round because of its involvement in the Club World Cup.
Everton hadn't conceded a single goal in its recent winning streak that came in the wake of the club being handed a 10-point sanction for financial mismanagement.
The visitors claimed a consolation in the 82nd minute through substitute Andre Gomes, who earlier thought he had set up England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin for a goal — only for it to be disallowed for a foul by the Portuguese on Emerson Royal in the buildup.
Everton substitute Arnaut Danjuma hit the crossbar in the sixth and final minute of stoppage time, having wasted two other chances as Sean Dyche's team finished strongly.
The gap from Everton to the relegation zone was cut to four points after a win for third-to-last Luton over Newcastle on Saturday.

Postecoglou slams VAR as Tottenham boss offers Romero update
18:17 , Jonathan Gorrie
Ange Postecoglou slammed VAR once more, despite it appearing to go his way when it disallowed an Everton goal in the second half of Tottenham’s 2-1 home win.
With Spurs 2-0 up through goals scored by Richarlison and Heung-min Son, Dominic Calvert-Lewin thought he had pulled a goal back for the Toffees, but referee Stuart Attwell went to the screen upon VAR’s recommendation and ruled it out for a foul which Andre Gomes had committed on Emerson Royal.
Everton did eventually make it 2-1 with Gomes’s fine strike, but Postecoglou gave his latest criticism of VAR after full-time, despite his side holding on to claim all three points.

Postecoglou dealt new concern despite Tottenham's hard-fought win
17:35 , Jonathan Gorrie
Tottenham head into Christmas on the back of three wins, but they were certainly made to work for it.
Spurs were 2-0 up after just 18 minutes through Richarlison and Heung-min Son against Sean Dyche’s Everton, but the in-form Toffees had won all of their last four Premier League games and showed they are a well-oiled machine as they grew into the contest throughout the first half.
Their threat never waned after that, and it will concern Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou quite how much possession his side afforded Everton in the second period. Andre Gomes’s brilliant strike made for a nervy finish with eight minutes to go, and it was ultimately Tottenham’s goalkeeper who won them this game — Guglielmo Vicario tipping Arnaut Danjuma’s fierce late drive over the crossbar.

Tottenham ratings vs Everton: Sarr and Vicario both excellent in 2-1 home win
17:10 , Jonathan Gorrie
Tottenham beat Everton 2-1 in a nervy match, but ultimately extended their winning run to three matches.
Ange Postecoglou's side were well on the way to heading into Christmas on the back of victory after Richarlison and Heung-min Son put them 2-0 up after 18 minutes.
But Everton grew as the half-time approached, and they halved the deficit when Andre Gomes slammed home with eight minutes to go.
Despite Sean Dyche's side maintaining their threat to the end, Tottenham held on to claim all three points.

Everton still carrying the threat that they did just before half-time. Tottenham have taken on the role of counter-attackers in this second half as the visitors see more of the ball. 20 minutes left before Spurs head into Christmas on the back of three straight wins.
Tottenham vs Everton: Toffees so wasteful

65 mins: Had Everton had a touch more composure, they'd be at least level.

In an instant, Everton think they are back on terms out of nothing. Emerson Royal pressured by Joao Gomes, who wins the ball off him and plays in Calvert-Lewin to score. But VAR recommends referee Stuart Attwell goes to the monitor, and in the end the goal is chalked off as Gomes is adjudged to have come through the back of Royal. It was a 50-50 for me. Everton unlucky, Spurs fortunate.

A half that will have pleased Ange Postecoglou very much indeed. Early goals from Richarlison and Son moved Tottenham into the position they wanted to be in, and they improved after that. Everton then steadied the ship and threatened themselves, but they are yet to breach Vicario’s goal and Spurs lead 2-0 at the interval.

Everton beginning to grow here and could have got back into the tie here if Onana had not blazed over and Garner’s shot just now had been struck a little more powerfully.
The way Sarr has just hoofed an Everton cross clear shows that Spurs are under the cosh at present.

Spurs are playing with a real fluidity and purpose here. A two-goal cushion helps, but they look more likely to increase their goal advantage than Everton do to halving the deficit at the moment. The hosts well in control.

Spurs were reminded of Everton’s game plan just a few moments ago when Porro didn’t do enough to block Mykolenko’s cross which forced Vicario to save Calvert-Lewin’s header.
But Spurs score up the other end almost immediately after. Son, of their finest players of the season so far, bounces a slightly mis-hit shot into the net after Pickford had parried Johnson’s drive. 2-0 inside 20 minutes.
Tottenham vs Everton: GOAL! Heung-min Son '18

18 mins: Kulusevski plays a short corner to Johnson, who shoots at Pickford.

What a start from Spurs, who take the lead in the opening ten minutes here with a gorgeous sweeping move. Sarr’s ball splits the defence, and Johnson is wide right to square for a composed, tucked finish by Richarlison. The early goal will ease nerves around this stadium, especially given Everton’s superb recent form.

Harry Kane: Tottenham player of 2023 despite spending half the year at Bayern Munich?
13:39 , Jonathan Gorrie
Tottenham are finishing 2023 on a high, buoyant and upwardly mobile under Ange Postecoglou, and right in the mix for a top-four finish.
The first half of the year was largely bleak for Spurs supporters, as the club's uncomfortable union with Antonio Conte came to an end before interim bosses Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason saw out a joyless 2022-23 campaign.
Assessing Spurs's calendar year as a whole is therefore a challenge, particularly when it comes to picking their best player over that period.
Plainly, Harry Kane was Spurs's standout player in the second half of last season but he left for Bayern Munich over the summer has not been part of Postecoglou's revolution.
Several members of last season's squad have excelled this season - Heung-min Son, Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski, for example - but were below par in the first part of the year.
So, if there was an award for Spurs's player of the calendar year, should Kane be in with a shot?
Tottenham vs Everton: Oliver Skipp in line for fresh chance
13:15 , Jonathan Gorrie
If there is a silver lining to Ange Postecoglou's relentless selection headaches, it is the opportunity for every member of his Tottenham squad to get a chance to make their case.
Since his players started dropping to injuries and suspensions, Postecoglou has had to get creative to keep Spurs competitive.

Tottenham vs Everton: Ange Postecoglou unconcerned by Spurs disciplinary record
12:58 , Jonathan Gorrie
Ange Postecoglou is relaxed about Tottenham's disciplinary problems and says Yves Bissouma will learn from his second red card of the season at Nottingham Forest last week.
Bissouma will miss Saturday's visit of Everton and the subsequent three matches - against Brighton and Bournemouth in the League and the FA Cup third-round tie with Burnley - after being shown a straight red card in the 2-0 win at the City Ground.

Tottenham vs Everton: Ange Postecoglou delivers European Super League verdict
11:41 , Jonathan Gorrie
Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou has suggested that backers of a European Super League are "detached from the real footballing world" and says he loves the "power to the people" dynamic which brought down the first iteration of the proposal.
New plans for a Super League were announced on Thursday with backing from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, just hours after a European High Court ruling said FIFA and UEFA had "abused a dominant position" in their treatment of clubs who formed the initial 12-team breakaway competition in April 2021.
